(
The Australian)

Excerpt from original article by Lenore Taylor:

"The Rudd Government says its first successful free trade agreement reveals the tests it will apply to all bilateral trade negotiations as it switches the emphasis of trade policy back to multilateral free trade talks.

Announcing a free trade agreement with Chile Wednesday, Trade Minister Simon Crean said it was "the most comprehensive agreement Australia has ever signed" and did not "carve out" any sectors.

He said the Government would insist on the same approach in its trade talks with China and Japan.

The agreement with Chile, which covers 97 per cent of trade between the two countries and will be formally signed in July, includes all agricultural products, including sugar, which the former government excluded from the free trade agreement with the US. …"

Freight Transportation in North America: The Road to Security and Prosperity – a book by Mary R. Brooks
(M.R. Brooks Announcement Page)

Summary of original article:

It is undeniable that 9/11 has effected international commerce and a variety of different industries. Mary Brooks offers insight into the freight transportation industry in North American and the development of its economic relationship post-9/11 "from the perspectives of transport supplier, cargo owner and policymaker."

The author addresses the common concern that economic gains from both North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), formed between Canada, United States and Mexico, and the Canada-US Trade Agreement "may have been diminished by the current security focus of American officials."

Brooks also discusses the North American transport network, growing regionalization, and the future of transportation across North America under the Security and Prosperity Partnerships.
